The Pied Piper of Hamelin

Description

The starting point is the popular medieval German legend that tells how a piper, with the music of his flute, frees the town of Hamelin from a plague of rats and how, later, he takes the town’s children away as a punishment for the adults, who refused to fulfill their promise to reward him for his work. This is a story that suggests a decaying, rotten society in need of change. In this version, moreover, to reinforce this idea, the children are unjustly blamed for the crimes committed by the rats.

Only two actor-puppeteers are needed to manipulate a large number of elements (lights, scenery, objects, and puppets) and bring the characters and the narrative movement of the story to life. With the combined movement of the lights, scenery, objects, and other elements such as mirrors, they manage to create different planes, depths, traveling shots, transitions, and effects.
