Ubuntu

Description

The Xhosa and Zulu cultures have a word, ubuntu, which for them means something like ‘I am because I belong to’. It refers, therefore, to the delicate network of interrelationships that is established between members of a community. A person with ubuntu supports others and feels weak when his or her own are humiliated or subjected to injustice. The Olveira Salcedo company transfers this concept to the language of shadow theater and, to do so, tells the story of a group of children and the adventures they will live. They are children who, because they have distinctive characteristics, are often the object of ridicule. Together they will embark on a fabulous journey that will confront them with dangerous situations, but at the same time will teach them that collaboration and cooperation allow them to overcome the most difficult obstacles.

Only two actors-puppeteers to manipulate a large number of elements (spotlights, scenery, objects and puppets) and bring to life the characters and the narrative movement of the story.
With the combined movement of lights, scenographies, objects and other elements, such as mirrors, they achieve: different planes, depths, trailers, transitions and effects.
